april readathon wrap-ups

April has been the time for read-a-thons.

From April 1st-30th, the Magical Readathon took place. This round was designed to simulate Hogwarts students taking their OWL exams. To participate, you pick your chosen career and read the prompts necessary for that particular career’s exams (more info)

For this round, I chose to be a wand maker. To be a wand maker, I needed to complete 5 OWLS:

1. Ancient Runes: A book with a heart/ word “heart” on the cover/in the title
2. Arithmacy: A book outside of your comfort zone
3. Care of Magical Creatures: A book with a creature with a beak on the cover
4. Charms: A book with a white cover
5. Herbology: A book that starts with “M”

Here’s my wrap-up:

1. Care of Magical Creatures: The Son of Neptune // Rick Riordan. I gave this 4 stars. Until page 300, it was going to be a 2.5 but the last 200 pages were INCREDIBLE.
2. Ancient Runes: Every Heart a Doorway // Seanan McGuire. I gave this novella 3.5 stars. It was intriguing but it took a bit to get accustomed to.
3. Charms: City of Ghosts // Victoria Schwab. 4 stars, and I am so excited to continue with thr series! MAD DANNY PHANTOM VIBES.
4. Arithmacy: Red, White, and Royal Blue // Casey McQuiston. 5 stars. Best book of 2020 so far. Please read this book!!!!!!
5. Herbology: The Miserable Mill // Lemony Snicket. 3.5 stars. I enjoyed it alot!

For the Stay Home Reading Rush, I did not follow my TBR or the challenges at all…

But I read all of Eclipse // Stephanie Meyer in 7 hours on the last day, in addition to reading Red, White, and Royal Blue….so it’s not like we did bad.

Outside of the read-a-thons, I finished Maus by Artie Spiegleman for school, but it was a phenomenal graphic novel about WWII! Highly recommend!
